Shanghai Specialty Coffee witnesses great challengers in this year's UBC China blowout!
Shanghai, China / Portland, Oregon, USA - The 2010 Ultimate Barista Challenge China held from 10 - 12 November in Pudong at the Shanghai New International Exhibition Center brought great local challengers! The FHC China, organized by China International Exhibitions, hosts the UBC China annually in the Coffee & Tea Pavilion.Ultimate Baristi from USA, Korea and China faced local baristi in "dueling challenges" of Latte Art, Espresso Frappe and Espresso Cocktail Challenges. Barista Challengers from cafes in and around Shanghai prepared espresso based drinks battling it out in Qualifying Challenges earning cash prizes, medallions, certificates and the right to challenge the worlds top "Ultimate Barista". If the challenger defeats the selected Ultimate Barista, they become the next Ultimate Barista China in that category! This no holds barred espresso coffee competition is like no other coffee competition in the world where taste, talent and speed earn high marks with certified UBC Tasting and Technical judges.
Ultimate Barista USA Sean Marshall, states, "The UBC China is in the best place to introduce Specialty Coffee to the Foodservice/Restaurant businesses at the world renowned FHC Shanghai" Ultimate Barista China Kelvin Huang, Ultimate Barista USA Sean Marshall (first time in China), 2009 Ultimate Barista CHINA Espresso Cocktail Mr. Hu Sai and Ultimate Barista KOREA Mr. Young min Lee represented their nation's top talent in coffee and espresso excellence. Ultimate Barista USA Sean Marshall directly from Houston, Texas USA was challenged in the Espresso Frappe Championship by Qualifying Finalist Miss Chiu, Pei Ju from Creation Foods in Twain. Her creative drink was called, "The Best Wishes" consisting of Yirgacheffe, Galapagos and East Timor roasted coffees with citrus aromatics, fine acidity and rich body! But in the end Ultimate Barista USA won!
Huge Crowds gathered as Ultimate Barista China Mr. Kelvin Huang and Ultimate Barista Korea Mr. Young min Lee demonstrated their techniques for dramatic latte art! Ultimate Barista USA Sean Marshall brought it on with his creative Espresso Cocktail Drink Demonstration. Ultimate Barista Korea Mr. Young min Lee then came on stage to prepare his specialty Espresso Frappe with a drink called the, "Sweet Potato Frappe"! Demonstrations educate the culinary audience & FHC attendees and feature UBC China Sponsor products and equipment. Following demonstrations, audience members crowded the stage to taste the drinks!
UBC CHINA Winners in the Qualifying & Championship Categories: Mr. Lau Yang of Jess Trading Co. won the Latte Art Challenge; Miss Chiu Pei Ju of Creation Foods won the Espresso Frappe Challenge and Mr. Zhang Zhi Shun of Hope Star won the Espresso Cocktail Challenge. Mr. Shun then choose and defeated the 2009 Ultimate Barista China Espresso Cocktail Mr. Hu Sai to become the new 2010 UBC Ultimate Barista Espresso Cocktail Champion! UBC Korea Mr. Young min Lee took the Latte Art Championship after a challenge by Mr. Lau Yang of Jess Trading Co. Congratulations to all participants!
